Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

Published posthumously, this is a study of the animals used by the military during World War I: horses, camels, mules, donkeys, oxen, dogs, pigeons. A history also of chemical warfare, veterinary services, humane societies. Naturalist, lecturer, and author Ernest Harold Baynes, b.1868-d.1925, was a founder of the large private fenced Corbin Game Preserve in west central New Hampshire, overlapping several community borders. Located just west of the Lake Sunapee region, the park was known for its imported buffaloes, as well as thousands of deer, and wild boars. The keen observations by Baynes also include the smaller creatures and their patterns.
