Washington, DC: Columbian Institute. Very Good. 1828. First Edition. Pamphlet. 29 pages; on the thirty-first December, One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty-seven. Corner of titlepage creased, scattered Samuel L. Southard (1787- 1842) had a long career in public service. He was United States Senator from New Jersey from 1821-1823 and again from 1833-1842. He also held the posts of Secretary of the Navy under President Monroe, 1823-1829 and that of Governor of New Jersey. In honor of the anniversary of the Columbian Institute, Southard addresses here the role of science in the advancement of human happiness, liberty and social order. At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years.
