Early Soviet study of anomalies of growth caused by hormonal disorders, illustrated with drawings, tables, and dozens of photographs of patients, which captures the development of endocrinology as a science. The study was published by the Kharkov Institute of Endocrinology (founded in 1919 as Institute of Organotherapy). The Institute was the first in the Soviet Union and the third in the world, after Berlin and Prague, to specialize in the subject of endocrinology and growth pathologies. The institute was also unique for combining the study of the diseases of the endocrine system with developing methods for treatment, and experimentation with pharmaceutical production using biologically active extracts from the endocrine glands. Little is known about the author, Boris Morgulis (1877-?), a lecturer at the Kharkov Institute of Endocrinology who produced several studies on developmental anomalies and "growth pathologies".
