Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2004. xxii, 178p., period photography and a genealogical tree, signed and inscribed by Hartfiel. First printing, dj, a very good copy. Hartfield's mixed-race mother grew up in the octoroon world of New Orleans, migrated to Bronzeville in the early 20th century. The author herself is currently senior fellow th Hrvard Center for Study of World Religions.
