About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1995. Fine.. Advance uncorrected proofs of the first edition of Beattie's novel, in which a despondent literature professor makes imperfect decisions. Beattie, a former instructor at Harvard, the University of Connecticut, and the University of Virginia, and recipient of awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, was once heralded as the voice of a generation. "I can't help it," she told the PARIS REVIEW in 1983, "if people make the mistake of thinking that I am a prophet and that I am disguising my wisdom as short fiction that's published in THE NEW YORKER." Indeed, the rear panel calls ANOTHER YOU "the work of a major novelist at the very peak of her form." 9'' x 6''. Original glossy pictorial wrappers. 325, [1] pages. Only minor edgewear.
