About This Item
Czech exile edition of David Low's anti-fascist caricatures, which rank among the best known and most popular visual documents of the increasing European conflict in the 1930s and throughout WWII. With short captions and explanations and the dates the drawings were initially published. With a one-page preface by Jan Masaryk (1886-1948), the son of T. G. Masaryk, longtime Czechoslovak ambassador to Great Britain, and defense minister of the government in exile during the last months of WWII. After a failed attack on his life, Masaryk died by "defenestration" in 1948, following the communist takeover, likely at the hands of the secret police.
