London: Macmillan and Co. Limited, 1909. 2nd Edition . Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Bound in green cloth with a gilt and red emblem on the front, faded gilt titles on the spine. Spine a little discoloured, folds at spine ends, some abrasions to boards but remaining attractive and robust. Strings revealed between the binding and the text-block, front and rear. Ink inscription to the front end paper dated 1910 with darkened related newspaper cuttings pasted inside the front of the binding (see photo). Pages clean and clear, abundantly illustrated including coloured plates. An obviously used book, clearly precious to the previous owner.
