About This Item
Berkeley: Turtle Island Foundation, 1976. First printing. 178 pp., 5.75 x 8.75 inches. Printed papers over boards in printed dust-jacket. Designed and printed by Clifford Burke at Cranium Press, from Linotype setting by Holbrook Teter. Very mild bumps at foot and crown of spine, otherwise a fine copy in a very good jacket with tiny edge chips and closed tears, and a ghost of an old price sticker.
A "New Word symphonic poem composed from native documents in the native tongue" (from the publisher's blurb). Wendell Berry says, "Here is our memory, our continent's memory, pressed onto the page by force of insight. it is a memory that measures us, where we stand by it or not. Paul Metcalf has given us a landmark . . . A wonderful book, a lovely book in every way."
