About This Item
1st printing, with unclipped dust jacket with repair to small tear to top edge of rear inner flap with light rubbing and shelf wear along edges. Book itself in very good clean condition throughout. Broido tells the story of Sofya Bardina, Vera Figner Vera Zasulich and many other women who participated in the revolutionary movement in the Tsarist Russia of Alexander II and IIi between 1860 and 1880. They started as peaceful propagandists and preachers of reform among the peasants and workers but gradually turned to militancy and terrorism and eventually regicide. The author was born into a revolutionary family herself and knew many of the women featured personally. A fascinating study of the period of Russian history which eventually lead to the full blown Revolutions of the twentieth century
