Hardcover, original brown cloth with gold lettering. Boston: Houghton, Osgood and Company, 1879. 308pp. Interesting contemporary bookplate on front paste-down, inked name stamped on verso of flyleaf. Includes plates and fold-out maps. Plate VIII, Map of Located Points near Lowe;s Path to Mt Adams has water stains, not effecting surrounding pages. Plate IX, map of the White Mountains, is missing. A folding map, "Sketch Map of the White Mountains", no plate number, is bound between the first and second issues. It has a small tear on the left margin.
