About This Item
Mexico City: Imprenta de J.M. Lara, 1850. Good plus.. 192pp. Contemporary quarter cloth and marbled boards. Boards worn, heavily so at edges and corners; spine cloth beginning to fray; hinges cracked, but solid. Unobtrusive, slightly later ink stamp at foot of title page. Contemporary manuscript inscriptions throughout; stray pencil marks on several pages. Light toning and foxing. An extensive exposition of customs and tariff law for maritime shipping and imports into Mexico just after the Mexican-American War. The present work contains the lengthy general laws for the imposition of duties, comprising nearly 175 individual articles, as well as printings of earlier decrees referenced throughout those regulations and a further 160 rules and modifications adopted in 1849. Fortunately for the user, detailed tables of contents and indices are provided. The contemporary owner of the present copy has made copious annotations and reference notes throughout, and this example clearly belonged to an official who had much use for it. Scarce.
