UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,14-191pp [paginated],includes half-title+title pages, author's note,a prologue,5 chapters and an epilogue.                                         D.M. Thomas's brilliant new book (then 1983) offers the reader a succession of pleasures, not least that of laughter, for the portrait of the poet or poets at it's centre is,in part,a brutally funny assault on the personal vanities and compromises of the creative ego.But beyond all the laughter, ironies and masks is the image of the serene twin-peaked mountain,Ararat, subject or theme of all the poet's flights of invention - fought over, longed for, dreamed of,but also solidly there, untouched by all the floods; and it is in that image, seen at the end of the book by a man and a woman gazing out of a hotel window in Armenia, which finally puts a stop to all the proliferating improvisations. As different from it's immensely successful predecessor, 'THE WHITE HOTEL', as it is from from D.M.Thomas's two earlier novels,'THE FLUTE PLAYER' and 'BIRTHSTONE' (themselves very unalike), ARARAT is unique, and will win new admirers for this extraordinary British writer. Author's 4th novel.                                                                                                             Please contact rpaxtonden@blueyonder.co.uk ,because of the lighter weight and the value of this item, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas buyers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!
