Arboretum et Fruticetum Britannicum; or, The Trees and Shrubs of Britain, Native and Foreign, Hardy and Half- Hardy, Volume VIII only

Longman, Brown, Green & Co, 1844-01-01. Hardcover. Good. These are Vol 7 and 8, of the 8 volume set. Dated as 1938, 4th volume of plates. Both volume's green hardcover boards still very flat, minor edge wear, some worn through spots around spines, corners are some sharp, some bowed, a few are worn through. Spines are softened at edges, a few worn through spots, small cracks or tears. Spines showing minor sun fading, gold embossed titles on burgundy title still good. Front of vol 8 has some old ink stains. Gutters and hinges still good, both well attached to binding. Smyth sewn binding quite good for age, a few cracks but no sewing detached. Pages have some edge wear and browning, some foxing, but not throughout. Interestingly in vol 8 the pages are out of sequence until pages 300 onwards, and in vol 7 there appears to be duplicate page numbers on a few occasions. Vol 7 has a small tear along the top of the front end page, and apart from a few small pencil markings apparently trying to correct the page numbers, are unmarked or folded. Vol 8 pages are unmarked or folded, and have similar pencil attempts at making sense of the misaligned pages. Both volume's pages are unevenly bound, not strictly a deckled edge, just roughly bound.
