Bound in with the above volume is a second volume which is a Supplement to Volume 81. "Offizieller Bericht der AM 11. Juni, Pfingstsonntag. In Budapest abgehaltenen Kriegstagung der Ungarischen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft" (the official report of the Hungarian Ophthalmological Society's war conference, held on June 11, Pentacost Sunday, in Budapest and submitted by Dr. L. von Liebermann, Jr. The pagination for this second volume is as follows: (i-iv), 1-157, & [1] page, illustrated with 8 black & white plates, including 2 charts, and numerous textual illustrations. In addition, 4 photographic plates are included in the pagination. The page corners are creased and there is offsetting to the endpapers and pastedowns. Very good.
The contents of the wartime supplement includes articles on refractive errors and trachoma in relation to fitness for service; foreign bodies in the eye and orbital region as the result of war injuries; eye injuries in war and caring for the blind.
The volume includes articles on ophthalmology by:
Otto Haab (1850-1931). The Swiss ophthalmologist who in 1885 clinically described senile macular disease (age-related macular degeneration). His name is associated with "Haab's reflex", "Haab's magnet" and the "Haab scale".
Karl Wessely (1874-1953), a German ophthalmologist who practiced in Wurzburg. During WWI, due to the use of poison gas, he was assigned to set up an eye ward. Wessely experimented on drugs to protect the eyes when using gas.
Henricus Javobus Maria Weve (1874-1953) contributes an article on the design for an instrument for measureing the depth of the anterior chamber of the eye.
