Book Condition: Good; wear to head, tail, tips, board bottom edges, and top of front spine shoulder; signature of pages 131-142 is loose at the spine where string binding has loosened. No DJ. Brown cloth boards and spine with dulled gilt lettering on the spine and front board; embossed decorations on front and rear boards. Dark brown endpapers. Clean internals. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 410 pp 8vo. The author read many officer stories and though the life of a private in the Civil War would be of interest. The author wrote this from sketches written in little memorandum books which he kept in his knapsack and which miraculously stayed with him for three years at the front, on the march, in bivouac, and battle. The end result is a picture of a private soldier's army life. A clean very clean copy.
