About This Item

Boston: North Star Books / Houghton Mifflin Company. Very Good in Poor dust jacket. 1959. Hardcover. A biography of Elizabeth Cochrane, who fearlessly described sometimes dangerous events as a reporter in her pseudonym of Nellie Bly in the 1880s and 1890s. She gained considerable fame for her attempt to circle the globe in less time than Jules Verne's famous Phileas Fogg character did in "Around the World in Eighty Days." Nellie beat Fogg by eight days. With illustrations in color and black & white by B. Holmes. This work written for a younger reader. --- In yellow cloth-covered boards with front cover image of a steamship; cover and spine titling in brown. Dust jacket with image of Nellie walking with a satchel in her hand and a monkey on her shoulder. --- With gift inscription to front paste-down, slight discoloration and chafing to cloth, otherwise a clean, tightly-bound, unmarked copy. Poor-only jacket with several large, open tears; wrapped in removable archival mylar protector. This work scarce in this edition. ; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; 181 pages .
