Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1895. Second Edition. Cloth Boards. Very Good/No Dustjacket. Copy owned by one M. Langdon, Jr and inscribed to him by the author and sculpture Partridge: "A souvenir of our meeting in Washington and the night we spendt with Browning at Afterhouse in Norwood. In the hope that we three may meet again the sooner the better." Neat underlining throughout text (perhaps Langdon's), and two photos tipped into book, boards a tad worn and soiled. Partridge (1861-1930), American sculpture and art schoalr, was best known for the statue of Gen. Grant on horseback in Union Sq, NYC. Browning was one Oscar Browning (1837-1923), a lecturer at Cambridge University Day Training College, was a leading exponent of the training of teachers and, as a Liberal, contested unsuccessfully House of Common seats in Norwood, among other distcricts.
