About This Item

Hudson Hills Press, 1991, 1st edition stated, Signed/Inscribed by Artist, 163 pages, oversize - 9 1/4" x 12", with 138 color plates. (Inscribed to Lindsay and David Morgenthaler, major philanthropists in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area.) Hardcover with dust jacket, both in near fine condition (dust jacket is price clipped).

"Here is the full range of Safer's work, from the early sculptures in acrylic to recent monumental works in bronze, chrome, brass, and steel. It includes angularly carved yet hauntingly organic forms as well as highly polished forms that perfectly resolve his light-encapsulating style with the 3-D mass and density of traditional sculpture."

PLUS LAID IN: a 1970 vintage magazine ad by the Pyramid Gallery of Washington, D.C. for an exhibit titled "John Safer refractions" with a photo of the artist at work (see photo #8).

About Yesterday's Books & Paper

Books mainly in the area of art & Americana. Also featuring paper items including historic magazine articles, collectible magazine ads & other paper ephemera. My main focus with magazine ads are those that are artist illustrated. Looking back in time, it's interesting to note the number and variety of businesses that enlisted artists to help sell their product(s). These artists, illustrators and photographers added their talent creating memorable illustrations and often provided historical relevance of the times.Magazine ads, articles and photo pages can be an attractive addition for home or office decor, as a gift for a special friend, or simply to add to a favorite collection. I hope you enjoy the paper items I have listed.
