Jesuit Antonio del Rincon's 1595 study of Nahuatl (language of the Mexica) with grammar and vocabulary with Nahuatl-Spanish on many facing pages. Facsimile edition of the 1885 original overseen by Antonio Penafiel. Numbered edition of 250, this is number 145. 94pp. Condition of interior pages fine with the exception of a bend to the upper corners. Cover has suffered shelf wear including a tear at the spine to both front and back covers, wrinkles, edges rubbed, a drop of tea[?] on front cover (see photo). Definitely has some character. Very hard to find.

Folio, pp. 94; original tan printed wrappers bound in later Mexican calf-backed boards, red and black morocco labels on gilt-paneled spine; pages toned; a few small chips and tears; generally very good. The original 1595 edition was composed by Father Antonio del Rincón (1566-1601) of the Society of Jesus; addressed to the most illustrious and most reverend S. Don Diego Romano, Bishop of Tlaxcallan and of His Majesty's Council &c. in Mexico in the house of Pedro Balli, 1595. Rincón was a Jesuit priest and grammarian, and his grammar is one of the earliest grammars of the Nahuatl language. Vinaza 88 (for the 1595 edition) and 652 (this edition). Palau 268087.
