About This Item
London: Duckworth, 1934. First Edition. Sharp copy of this posthumously-published novella, which Firbank worked on between 1909-1912. He described it as "a tender classic," with the working title Salomé Or 'Tis A Pity That She Would. Benkovitz says the piece "can be associated with a schoolboy's fascination with fin de siècle taste for the lush and the overripe and a public revival of interest in Salomé between 1906-1910" (p.153). Benkovitz A13a. First Impression, trade issue, one of 2,000 copies. Octavo (22cm); purple cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; x,11-84pp. Fine in a Fine, unclipped dustjacket (priced 6/- net).
