End papers toned. Previous owner's gift inscription and Christmas 1939 date. Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975) was an American painter, muralist, and printmaker. Along with Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry, he was at the forefront of the Regionalist art movement. The fluid, sculpted figures in his paintings showed everyday people in scenes of life in the United States.

A classic and worth getting Benton's late-revised printing as he revised it several times as he aged. The description of the copy was understated as it was in virtually mint condition upon receipt. Wonderful volume for lovers of this artist.
