About This Item

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1978. Hardcover. Foreword by Thomas S. Buechner. Wide small 4to. Beige cloth, pictorial price-clipped dust jacket. x, 205pp. Extensive full-page illustrations (many color). Fine/fine. Superb, tight first edition of this collection of 155 of Levine's best famed caricatures together with 61 of his paintings. On the half-title page, Levine signs boldly in black fineline, adding a fountain pen the nib of which is a self-portrait. Very scarce in this form. Though not so noted, this was signed for the late ad man and Horatio Alger authority Ralph Gardner, who had a talk show in New York and may well have interviewed Levine for his show.
