About This Item

UK,thick 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.[Complete number line 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2.] NFINE/NFINE. No owner inscrptn and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright,crisp,glossy laminated, monochrome superimposed photographic illustrated dw/dj,with embossed yellow/gilt+white lettering; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present and expected age-acquired but minimal, superficial scoring/indents to either panel ,but without pentration to boards beneath.Top+fore-edges bright and generally clean; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - near pristine - one dog-ear reading crease to pp59/60 top corner tip excepted, but no other pages affected.Publishers bright,crisp,sharp-cornered original plain black cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked gilt author's monogram initials to centre of upper board, and bright, crisp, blocked gilt letters to spine/backstrip and immaculate plain black endpapers. Inexplicably, both the fore-edge and gutter fold/crease of the front board have a series of near uniform small raised, short horizontal spaced wrinkles (?) almost their respective entire lengths - fault more pronounced to the board's fore-edge.No sign of any water or fluid damage to board's affected area nor to concomitant area to the dw/dj internally - shrinkage or drying out of the glue used to adhere the cloth to the board possibly? UK,thick 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,1-692pp [paginated] includes Pts 1-4 comprising 103 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages, author's note, and an (alleged) historical quotation and Pts separator pages. Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable, and even internally, the book is still in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the board's exterior faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall. Despite that,it is still an acceptable example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of other major detracting faults. DescribeD hard, honestly and fairly - still a presentable book and a stop gap filler. Set high on a craggy cliff top on the wind-battered western coast of Scotland is a remote, secluded, ancient castle.A castle that holds secrets that would shake the world if they were ever revealed.
David Ash,ghost hunter and parapsychologist,is sent there to investigate a series of bizarre hauntings that have grown gradually more menacing and horrific: unaccountable noises, inexplicable putrid smells, the dimming of lights, deathly chills, and objects mysteriously flying across rooms.
But when a resident is found in his room, dead pinned to the wall, only his viscous blood holding him in place, the investigator is all too aware that a powerful and dark force lurks within the castle's ancient walls,an incorporeal power fed by the evil of those who inhabit this sanctuary called Comraich Castle and ignited by a long-ago curse.
There are others, humans, miscreants with black souls, who roam the corridors and passageways, infamous people thought long-deceased by the outside world. Yet their hour of retribution is at hand . .
James Herbert' hugely anticipated, controversial new novel (then 2012) is an outstanding achievement, one of his very best works that is sure to have you guessing what is fact and what is fiction.
