In the matching red silk slipcase, gilt lettering on spine. Endpaper maps. Of a special edition limited to 500 copies, this is number 399. Signed by both Fairservis and Boltin at the colophon. An archaeologist playwright, Fairservis (1921-1994) was associated with the American Museum of Natural History, and at Vassar, where he taught. Accordingly, his emphasis here is ancient history, unraveling the deep history of Asia near and far.Photography captures not just the natural world, but stunning artifacts found in a variety of institutions. A lavish production, with photography consistent with the elevated treatment of the binding.
