About This Item
New York: Simon and Schuster, 1952. Book Club Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Probably book club edition unknown printing. Hardback book is tight clean and square. Boards clean, with bump to top edge of upper board. Lightly bumped and rubbed to spine ends, title gilt perfect. Text block clean, with toning to fore-edge, top egde red printers stain bold and unmarked. The pages are crisp and unblemished. Feels lightly read. Clipped jacket (likely to remove reference to book club), is very tidy with some minor rubs to the edges. There is light toning to the spine, which has some creasing to the foot. The rear white panel is unmarked, with some general toning mostly at the edges. Overall a very good copy. For grading accuracy books are photographed without a protective book cover. This book is fitted with a non adhesive archival quality book protector to make a worthy addition to your collection. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. This landmark anthology contains 32 short stories and novelettes pretty much all of which are now considered classics. The stories are: Blowups Happen by Robert A. Heinlein; Hindsight by Jack Williamson; Vault of the Beast by A. E. van Vogt; The Exalted by L. Sprague de Camp; Nightfall by Isaac Asimov; When the Bough Breaks by Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore ; Clash by Night by Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore ; Invariant by John R. Pierce ; First Contact by Murray Leinster; Meihem in ce Klasrum by Dolton Edwards; Hobbyist by Eric Frank Russell; E for Effort by T. L. Sherred; Child's Play by William Tenn; Thunder and Roses by Theodore Sturgeon; Late Night Final by Eric Frank Russell; Cold War by Kris Neville; Eternity Lost by Clifford D. Simak; The Witches of Karres by James H. Schmitz; Over the Top by Lester del Rey; Meteor by William T. Powers; Last Enemy by H. Beam Piper; Historical Note by Murray Leinster; Protected Species by H. B. Fyfe. A solid and still attractive example of this anthology classic, that is uncommon in the UK.
