New York: Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York Public Library, 1988. First Edition. Hardcover. Scarce catalogue published in conjunction with an exhibition celebrating the life and work of the American sculptor and educator who battled racism to secure a place for African American women in the art world. Associated with the Harlem Renaissance, Savage (1892-1962) is perhaps best known for creating a sculpture renamed "The Harp" for 1939 New York World's Fair in Queens, New York. Includes a foreword by Howard Dodson, an appreciation by Deirdre L. Bibby, and a chronology by Juanita Marie Holland. An invitation to an an artists round table and lecture held in conjunction with the exhibition is laid in. Quarto: 27 p. with 18 illustrations. Full gray buckram binding, with gilt titles. The original paper wrappers are bound in. Pencil name to the front panel of the wrappers; else fine. Scarce.
