Sampson Low, Marston and Co. Ltd. Used - Good. 1909. Hardcover. Cloth, no dj. Octavo. 551 pp. Ex-library copy. First U.K. edition, reprinted from American plates by William Clowes and Sons, Ltd. Blue cloth with gilt of outline of Africa on cover and spine. Text-block gilded on top edge. Significant scuffing to cover, notably down spine. Cloth fraying at tail of spine, head of back board. Corners of cover bent inwards. The letter B inscribed in china marker on spine near tail. Significant foxing to endpaper, with library bookplate on pastedown at front. Rust from paperclip at top of front endpaper. Hinges tender but holding, with visible ribbon and mull. Pages xvii-xviii, 1-30 slightly bent at top corner. Text itself in excellent condition, with occasional, minor foxing, and one marginal note in pencil on page 78. A bifold errata leaf is inserted at pp. 510-511 with changed text for those two pages. Good. (Subject: Africa).
