Washington, 1826. unbound. very good(+). Fine content A.L.S.: A shipment of Congressional Law books vanish on the Boston-Concord canal route. 4to. 1 page, City of Washington, November 15, 1826, to Richard Bartlett, Secretary of New Hampshire and son of signer Josiah Bartlett, in full: "On the 31st of August last, I deposited in the office of the Canal Company at Boston for transportation by the Canal to Concord, three boxes containing 280 copies of the Laws of the last session of Congress, for the use of the State of New Hampshire, directed to your care. On my arrival at Concord two or three days after, finding that the boxes had not arrived, and that they probably would not arrive for several days, on account of a sudden rise of the Merrimack, I left a note for you in the hands of your clerk, requesting you to address me at this city on the arrival of the Laws, acknowledging the receipt of them. As I have not yet had the honor of hearing from you, I feel apprehensive that come accident may have prevented them coming to hand. Will you, Sir, have the goodness to relieve my apprehensions, or at least my uncertainty, by addressing me a line immediately?" Boldly signed and in excellent condition.

American Whig and Anti-Masonic politician who served as the seventeenth Governor of Vermont.
