March, undated. 1 page 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. “I hope the effects of the Lehmans’ glass door have passed away.” Tom Taylor (1817-80), critic, dramatist and editor of Punch. In 1845 Taylor was Professor of English Literature and Language at London University. In 1846 he was called to the Bar. Sir Henry Thompson, Bart., Professor of Surgery at University College, London, was known for his dinner parties at his house 35 Wimpole Street, called “Octaves”, at which eight courses, accompanied by eight wines, were served at eight o'clock to eight guests in addition to the host and the guest of honour.
