London: Macmillan and Company, 1898. First edition, complete in two hardback volumes. 8vo (24cm by 17cm), x, 332pp; ix, 344pp. Folding map, 28 photogravure plates, text illustrations. Original black cloth, gilt titling to the spines. Boards rubbed, some chipping of the joints and the heads of the spines in both volumes, tissue protectors browned, contents VG. Overall, this set is in good condition. This edition is limited to 50 (fifty) numbered sets only, of which this is set number 50. There was also a separate limited edition of 150 sets.
