The Avenger is a fictional character whose original adventures appeared between September 1939 and September 1942 in the pulp magazine The Avenger, published by Street & Smith. Kenneth Robeson was the house name used by Street and Smith Publications as the author of their popular character Doc Savage and later The Avenger. The first 24 of the Avenger stories were written by Paul Ernst, using the Robeson house name. Robeson was credited on the cover of The Avenger magazine as "the creator of Doc Savage." Decades later, newly written adventures were commissioned and published by Warner Brothers' Paperback Library from 1973 to 1974. Titles 24-36 were actually written by Ron Goulart. The covers for the Avenger paperback series were initially painted by Peter Caras (1-8) , and later by George Gross (9-36). The titles in order are: 1) Justice, Inc. June 1972 159 pages, 2) The Yellow Hoard July 1972 158 pages, 3) The Sky Walker August 1972 156 pages, 4) The Devil's Horns September 1972 160 pages, 5) The Frosted Death October 1972 157 pages, 6) The Blood Ring November 1972 158 pages, 7) Stockholders In Death December 1972 158 pages, 8) The Glass Mountain January 1973 158 pages, 9) Tuned For Murder February 1973 158 pages, 10) The Smiling Dogs March 1973 159 pages ***Waiting for this copy from ***, 11) River Of Ice April 1973 157 pages, 12) The Flame Breathers May 1973 157 pages, 13) Murder On Wheels June 1973 158 pages, 14) Three Gold Crowns July !973 158 pages, 15) House of Death August 1973 158 pages, 16) The Hate Master September 1973 158 pages, 17) Nevlo October 1973 159 pages, Death In Slow Motion November 1973 158 pages, 19) Pictures Of Death December 1973 158 pages, 20) The Green Killer January 1974 (Note: this copy is VG+, one small corner crease to front cover) 158 pages, 21) The Happy Killers February 1974 158 pages, 22) The Black Death March 1974 158 pages, 23) The Wilder Curse April 1974 158 pages, 24) Midnight Murder April 1974 158 pages, 25) The Man From Atlantis June 1974 158 pages, 26) Red Moon July 1974 158 pages, 27) The Purple Zombie August 1974 141 pages, 28) Dr. Time September 1974 142 pages, 29) The Nightwitch Devil October 1974 144 pages, 30) Black Chariots November 1974 142 pages, 31) The Cartoon Crimes December 1974 140 pages, 32) The Death Machine January 1975 142 pages, 33) The Blood Countess February 1975 142 pages, 34) The Glass Man March 1975 142 pages, 35) The Iron Skull April 1975 142 pages and 36) Demon Island May 1975 141 pages.
