Good. 8vo hardcover with green cloth boards and faded gold gilt and black titling on the front cover and the spine, with pictorial stamping on the front cover. First edition, potentially a later state copy with the first edition points as following: 1) Copyright dated 1884, leaf bound, 2) Page 13, Him and Another Man listed at p88, 3) p57:11 up with the was, 4) 155, final 5 present with wrong font, 5) 161, signature mark 11 absent, 6) 282, engraving redone and leaf tipped in, 7) Portrait frontispiece: cloth under bust visible; Heliotype imprint. New Point - Page 143, L missing in Col. that is part of the illustration; b in body, line 7, is broken. The condition of the book is Good (fading to the covers and spine; binding weakened; wear to all edges that in some sections exposes the board underneath the cloth; cloth fraying in some sections; text block aged). 366pp.
