Contents include: Introduction and Definitions; Orders; Royal Family Orders; Other Orders; Medals Affiliated wit Orders; Medals of the Order of the British Empire; Miscellaneous Honours;, Regimental Honours; Medals; Decorations: Coronations, Jubilee, Commemorative and Royal Household Medals; Life-Saving Medals; Naval, Military and Air Decorations for Valour, Gallantry, Distinguished Conduct and Meritorious Service; Campaign Medals, Polar Exploration Medals; Long Service and Good Conduct Medals; Good Shooting Medals; Royal Societies' Medals; Indian, Dominion and Colonial Decorations and Medals; Empire and Colonial Police Medals; Medical and Nursing Services' Decorations, and Miscellaneous Decorations. Within this work are the names of famous campaigns, battles, sieges, reliefs, and expeditions which, in recalling, sound to our modern ears little more than faint echoes from distant ranges of time. It is, perhaps, the tendency in every age to either forget, belittle or take for granted the triumphs and victories of years ago; or, to compare them with those of our own day. Hitherto, no previous compilation has included any mention of the exceedingly important and coveted Medals awarded by the Royal Society, the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Society of Arts. The medals awarded by them recall and are associated with the name of our greatest scientists, inventors, and explorers. This is an increasingly scarce and in part seminal work.
