London: Sampson Low,Son & co. 1st edition first printing, 1861. Hardcover. Very Good. color printed plates (10) by Wm. Dickes [?using the Baxter process]. 183x132mm Rose blindstamped and pictorial gilt cloth on bevelled boards (corners sl.rubbed/spine and some edges a bit faded] All Edges Gilt 10 leaves printed one side only and with guard blanks in front of each. The pictorial parts of the plates are highly glazed, the text portion printed in small italic letters. A Victorian bookseller's miniature label to pastedown and a very feint but readable inscription to free endpaper.Very neat and clean copy of the first edition of these illustrations which were later reprinted by Bickers.
