Reviews

On Sep 10 2016, a reader said:
Baby Doll by Hollie Overton starts on November 11, 2015 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lily Riser cannot believe he actually left the door unlocked. She waited a while to make sure he was not coming back. Then Lily grabbed her daughter, Sky and took off. Lily could not wait to get home to her twin sister, Abby. Lily was kidnapped eight years prior when she was a teenager and this is her very first chance to escape. Lily does not want her six-year-old daughter, Sky to be raised a captive. Abby Riser is Lily's twin sister and she has had a troubled life since her sister disappeared. Abby has made bad choices. No one was left unaffected by the kidnapping. What happens now? Who is the kidnapper and why did he take Lily? Find out the complete story in Baby Doll.

I found Baby Doll to be a slow paced and predictable novel. I had a hard time liking any of the characters (I felt bad for Sky). The book is easy to read, but there is foul language and graphic scenes. I kept hoping for something more (a twist), but the novel plodded along to the expected ending. Abby rebelled in the typical ways, the mother sleeps around, poor Sky is scared and hides (as expected). The story is told from the various character's point-of-view including the kidnappers. I give Baby Doll 2 out of 5 stars (I did not like it). The story needed a faster pace and scary OMG moments that has the reader enthralled. Instead, I could have cared less what happened to any of them which made it hard to finish this book. The characters come across as juvenile (rebellious teenagers), and the story reminds me of a bad telenovela.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. The comments and opinions expressed are strictly my own.
