Introduction to the first edition, introduction to the second edition, and five appendices. The text is illustrated with numerous figures, formulae and the occasional black-and-white line stop illustrated boards with brown coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as the underlying boards, brown coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. Title says it all. Rubbing of the book corners and softening and rubbing of the back strip edges. Tanning of the text block edges and lighter tanning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. Creasing of the dustwrapper edges with fading of the back strip and to the left hand edge of the front panel. There is rubbing and some staining of the dustwrapper and to the top left hand corner of the rear panel an large erosion mark is visible, though there are various erosion marks visible to the rear panel.
