About This Item
239 pages. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's grey cloth with silver lettering to spine and picture of a fish hook to cover in original pictorial jacket. Inscribed by the author. First edition. Holt Lawson quit professional football when he discovered his wife had completed more passes in bed than he had on the field. Back in his home town, he re-opens his late father's law office and retreats into what he expects to be the placid life of a country lawyer. But before long he faces more dangerous opponents and a tougher game for higher stakes than he ever encountered before. the fiery temper and quick reactions that made him an all-pro quarterback work against him as an attorney. Hardly a Perry Mason, he dashes into every trap set by his wily legal opponent, only to be blindsided by chicanery, deception and e en murder--none of which he can prove. In the end, while he fights to carry out the wishes of his client, it is what he learned on the football field that come to his aid. Both sides can paly dirty, and both sides can use the "trap" play, and Holt seets his trap with dangerous bait of perjury. Condition: Inscribed by author on dedication page. Paper clip impression left on top edges of pages up to the dedication page. Jacket rubbed at extremities with spine ends with small creases else very good in a very good to fine jacket.
