About This Item

Inside text is nice and appears to have little use. There is a Landmark nameplate inside the front cover, but no other writing or marks. Outside cloth covers show some minor soiling with some minor corner wear. No Dust Jacket. Book has come from a private collection. A less common title in the Landmark series. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. Balboa Swordsman and Conquistador World Landmark #25. In 1513, Balboa first sighted the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, a discovery that changed the maps of the world and the course of history. Here is an authentic biography of this great explorer. Not only was he an outstanding colonizer and military strategist, as well as the most formidable swordsman of the early sixteenth century, but he was a noble, kindly man- rare qualities in those days when white conquistadors were generally brutal taskmasters. In bringing this remarkable man to life, Felix Riesenberg vividly recreated Balboa's early days as a page boy in the household of a noble, his brilliant sword fights, his shipwrecks, battles and intrigues.
