London: Edward Jones, 1802. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. IBBETSON. SMITH. ROWLANDSON.. 1802, VG, 1st ed, 1 pl. In modern quarter cloth with blue marbled boards, spine with printed title. Internally, new endpapers, no inscriptions, frontis, figures drawn by Ibbetson, landscape by J Smith and etched by Rowlandson, [3], (iv-xx), [1], 2-96 pp history, 97-112 music scores, 1 pl, 2 printers devices, occasional contemp. ink marginal note, printed by A Strahan, Printers Street, London, light marginal water stain to last few pages. A very Good copy. Jones had prepared a 3rd vol, a portion of which was published at his death, the remainder being issued later. Title continues: And other admirable rarities; forming the second volume of the Musical, Poetical, and Historical Relicks of the Welsh Bards and Druids: etc. (Lowndes 1225. Livbri Walliae 2848). Jones, harpist and music antiquary, was a serious scholar who made a notable contribution to the antiquarianism which typified much of the scholarship of his period. His library was extensive, and his research into both primary and secondary sources, including the old Welsh laws and Welsh grammars, enabled him not only to present music, but also to write in some depth about it. An emphasis on scholarly discourse is characteristic of his major works. For instance, two-thirds of his first important work, a collection of Welsh melodies entitled The Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards (1784), is devoted to a series of essays on Welsh music and the bardic tradition, including an extensive 'Historical account of the Welsh bards'. However this does not mean that automatically goods are sent out on approval. Any return is entirely the responsibility of the returnee, and the Post Office is the preferred carrier. Our bank account details can be supplied to purchasers. Mastercard, Visa, Solo & Maestro can be accepted for most transactions. Checks are welcome, but please allow 4 working days for them to clear, before we send the book. Payment can be accepted in currencies other than Sterling but please ask beforehand to agree. There are no export restrictions.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS You may request to cancel a book order or return a book within 14 days of receipt of the book. A book may be returned for one of the following reasons: Item damaged: The item was damaged during shipping. Item not as described: The condition of the book does not match the description on Madoc Books. Incorrect item delivered: The title, cover or edition of the book is different than the title on the order. Item not received: The estimated delivery date has passed and the book has still not arrived. To cancel a book order or return a book simply contact Madoc with your order confirmation details and to obtain the return address.
DELIVERY DETAILS We ship all of our orders via Royal Mail. Orders are usually shipped within 2 or 3 business days. Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.2 LB, or 1 KG. If your book order is heavy or oversized or a multiple in books we will contact you to let you know that extra shipping is required. Insurance costs are usually dictated by the shippers, should they be higher than normal, then we will contact you for your acceptance.
