1870. Lithograph with original hand-colouring. 175mm by 120mm (image) 275mm by 175mm (sheet). Le Castor (Activite - Lucre)'. Depicts Baron Georges Eugene Haussmann (1809-91) as a Beaver. Haussmann was responsible for the redevelopment of Paris 1852-70.
From 'La Menagerie Imperiale'. Published in Paris by Coulboeuf. Paul Hadol was a French illustrator, draftsman and caricaturist. During the 1870 war he published La Menagerie imperiale (The Imperial Zoo) - caricatures which placed the heads of members of the disgraced Bonaparte family and their conspirators on the bodies of animals. Faint vertical crease.
