From Perry's Preface: "Believing that Barre's experience in the great Vermont flood of 1927 was of sufficient moment to warrant recounting, and feeling that the history of that experience ought to be put in more or less permanent form for preservation, the author presents this book, with the hope that it will serve to relate the facts with fidelity and reasonable completeness." And so it does.
