About This Item
New York: Fords, Howard, & Hulbert. Very Good. 1886. Hardcover. John Lord (1810-1894) was an American historian and lecturer, compiled many of his lectures into the Beacon Lights of History series (14 volumes plus index volume in total issued over 13 years). This is Volume 5 and is devoted to his lectures on famous women in history. Various lectures cover Cleopatra, Heloise, Madame de Maintenon, Sarah, Dutchess of Marlboro, Joan of Arc, Hannah More, George Eliot, etc. Original red cloth covers with bright spine and cover lettering and black and gilt cover decoration. There is an interesting old color cut-out of a woman in Victorian dress loosely laid in the front--quite in keeping the 1886 publication date of this book. There is a faint spot to the top edge of the spine and a few faint spots to the rear cover, else this is a nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings.; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 522 pages .
