1. New York and London, D. Appleton and Company. 1914. First edition. Scarce. Hardcover. 355 pages. Illustrated by Charles M. Russell. Dark blue cloth with faded spine showing tears along edges and ends. Gilt faded on front cover. Both hinges starting with 1""; cracks. Partially erased writing on blank front endpaper. Binding tight. Pages clean and bright. 8 listed illustrations. Six-Guns 1169. Author from Virginia and worked on a ranch as a cowboy. Moved to Kansas, studied law, admitted to bar age 21. 1892 elected District Attorney in El Reno, Oklahoma. Became a train robber, horse and cattle thief, evangelist, murderer (was sentenced to life in prison and pardoned by Teddy Roosevelt), politician (ran for Governor of Oklahoma), author, and worked in silent and vocal western films.
