About This Item
New York: Beau Publishing. New York, Beau Publishing, 1926-1927. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. Very good condition. Bound together in cloth. Seven issues from October 1926 to October 1927 - publication seems sporadic. Beau was a precursor of sorts to the so-called men's magazines such as Esquire. Roth, the editor (and contributor) was famously jailed for his publications. Of particular interest in this regard is the March 1927 issue which was surpressed due to it 'dripping with nudes'. Evidently hyperbole given that the only real nude in there is the Spare which is still pretty tame really, that said, the original auction listing for this specific copy from 2006 suggests it's the February 1927 that was surpressed. Includes work by Aldous Huxley, Lord Dunsany, Max Beerbohm Wyndham Lewis, Alastair, Barry Pain, G.K. Chesteron, G.B. Shaw, Austin Spare, H.G. Wells, . Also included is The Marriage of Sherlock Holmes by Gregory Breitman. Collector's plate to the front pastedown, some marking to the cloth. Previous owner's pencil notes to the endpaper. Some creasing to the bound in wraps. [10031, Hyraxia Books]. 1926-1927 . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1926.
