Hardbound, bright red cloth boards with gold gilt text on the spine and emblem on the front cover. Spine and boards are in very nice condition with no wear and with corners that are sharp with no bumping, but the spine and the front top cover edge show sun fading that make reading the spine slightly difficult. Spine is straight with no cracking to the endpapers. Text block is solid with all pages firmly attached but has spotting along the front edge although it does not bleed over onto the pages. Slight age tanning throughout. Page 77 has an approximate one-inch mark but otherwise all interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks or previous owner marks. Harold E. Shryock (1906 – 2004) was a physician, medical educator, and medical school administrator with over 621 magazine articles and 13 books to his credit. He is also credited with major contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Loma Linda University School of Medicine where he worked for 41 years. At Loma Linda he was known primarily as a medical educator, teaching future physicians. However, he was best known internationally as an author. While it might be said this is a look at 1950's Adventist beliefs, his advice in "On Becoming a Man" is still very relevant even in this day of cell phones and social media.
