Twenty-two battalions were raised by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment, battalions who saw action from Flanders to Gallipoli, from Egypt to Jerusalem. The Second War brought the Regiment glory at Dunkirk, in Singapore they lost a whole battalion, their skill as part of General Orde Wingate's Chindits was a source of bewilderment to the enemy; from North Africa to Italy they were an omnipresent menace to whoever tried to stop them.
