The 25 woodcut illustrations after drawings by Burne-Jones were intended for a Kelmscott Press project, the designs were so far carried out that, with the help of Catterson Smith, were completed and reproduced. Smith, who, under Burne-Jones's eye, translated almost all the designs for the Kelmscott project from pencil into ink before they were engraved, and in so doing he learnt most intimately the manner and meaning of the artist." from acknowledgments by Georgiana Burne-Jones.
