About This Item
Savannah: Bonaventure Books, 2002. First Edition, Limited and Numbered by hand, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE TITLE PAGE. With a story not included in any subsequent editions. With a number of photographs throughout. 8vo, publisher's original black boards lettered on the spine in silver, in the original dustjacket designed by Jere Connan and featuring artwork by Savannah artist Luther Vann and photo of the author by Heather Madras Johnson. [285] pp. A mint copy, very fine indeed, pristine both inside and out. ONE OF THE REALLY GREAT BOOKS ON SAVANNAH. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. The stories are so good that it becomes difficult to put the book down. Stories of yesteryear, of running bootleg whiskey during the days of Prohibition and of the locals that engaged in the activity, stories of the pool halls and drinking establishments, of the winter and springtime visitors, of Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe Jackson, of the town made famous in the modern day by the book and movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Ten stories that will wet your appetite for more.
Murray Silver is known for a number of books, perhaps the most famous being GREAT BALLS OF FIRE The Uncensored Story of Jerry Lee Lewis, the book that the movie was derived from. He also wrote WHEN ELVIS MEETS THE DALI LAMA and number of others. A Savannah native, Silver still resides in the city and in recent years has been active in politics, even running for mayor. He wrote with Elvis Presley's physician the book that would cause a scandal, WHO KILLED ELVIS PRESLEY, and for some time was personal assistant to the Dalai Lama, setting aside, at the Dalai Lama's request, the business of his personal life to write about China's oppression of Tibet and to sponsor tours of the Tibetan Buddhist monks who performed sacred chants and dances at museums and universities. He was responsible for some time for transporting the Mystical Arts of Tibet Exhibit which featured personal sacred objects belonging to the Dalai Lama.
He is recognized as an expert on the subject of Spirit, has been a featured presenter at Mensa conventions and gives even to the present day, some of the best tours of Savannah that can be had. Murray knows where all the ghosts of Savannah still reside.
