A & C Black, London, 1908. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Amedee Forestier. List of illustrations and index. The text is illustrated with 77 coloured drawings, each with a translucent tissue guard with an explanation of the painting, by Amedee Forestier, along with numerous black-and-white drawings. At the rear of the book there is a fold out map of Belgium and part of Holland. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with yellow and orange coloured decoration to the front panel and back strip; yellow coloured titles and Belgian coat of arms to the front panel and gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Book about Belgium highlighting the various places and peoples of the region. The book is definitely showing use and age  please see photograph. Softening, rubbing and fraying of the back strip edges with the underlying board visible and there is a 1.25" tear to the top back strip edge. Small tears to all dustwrapper corners. Bumping, rubbing and fraying with the underlying board visible to the book corners. Heavy rubbing of the book edges and panels with marks also visible. Tanning and foxing of the text block edges, though the pages themselves so only mildly age toned. Between pages 128 and 129 a previous owner has placed a flower which is still in situ which has caused staining and a little foxing. The hinges have cracked and the underlying webbing is visible; the free front end page is missing. Previous owners name to the top edge of the half title page. Heavy tanning to the half title page and the map at the rear of the book is creased due to improper storage. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [4], V - IX, [2] 390 pages,.
