About This Item
Buffalo, N.Y.: Bell Aircraft Corporation Photographic Dept., 1956. Single Photograph. Fine. 6x10 Inches. Original b/w photograph from Bell Aircraft Corporation with their stamp on the back of the photo: showing chief test pilot, USAF General Frank Everest (1920-2004), beside Bell Aircraft experimental 'X-2 rocket plane' at Edwards Air Force Base, where in July,1956, had reached Mach 2.9 at 60,000 feet. Everest became known as "the fastest man alive" and continued with an active and honoured Air Force career until retirement in 1973. The photo appears to have been trimmed top and bottom, else a fine example.
